Act1, Scene 1. St Christopher’s Inn Berlin. Sunday afternoon.
Ripp walks into the hostel to find Remily asleep following a weekend of no rest. They eat a LOT of fluorescent chips and get planning. Get some great views of the city after waiting in queues for a long time and going on a boat trip during which they promptly fall asleep. Eat German sausages, visit the hostel bar and grab an early night. Woken at a stupid our by girl in our room telling her own alarm clock to ‘shhh’. Weirdo.
Act 1, Scene 2. Walking Tour. Monday.
Exhausting. Berlin Wall is kinda breath-taking and some of the monuments are quite staggering..
Act 1, Scene 3. Pub Crawl. Monday Night.
Our freakish tie-dye loving friend arrives. We meet military guys. We drink. We dance. We drink. We take photos. We dance. We drink. We drink. We do stuff on trams. We meet more military guys. We drink. We dance in the rain. We chat to Siberian people. We spend too much time in the toilets. We take everyone to another club after the pub crawl finishes. We borrow hats. We drink. We get soaked.
Act 1, Scene 4. Haupbahnoff – Rugen. Tuesday.
We meet up with an Aussie army guy, Damien, who joins us on a train ride to Rugen. Train journey was great, Rugen was drab. Considered surfing, but decided it was too cold. Ate a lot in a restaurant. It rained more. Damien buys round after round of cocktails. Our youth hostel is…well, a youth hostel. We’re older than everyone else there by at least 10 years. We get told to be quiet at 1am.. Ripp falls off a wooden horse into a puddle. Shenanigans .
Act 1, Scene 5. Rugen – Berlin. Wednesday.
A long train journey with a lot of talking. Damien flies back to Australia after Ripp throws coffee everywhere, so we head to the zoo. We pose with animals and statues and laugh a lot.
Act 1, Scene 6. Pub Crawl. Wednesday night.
We get showered, head down to the starting point and see our now old-time buddies. We befriend a bunch of LA law students who throw so many jaeger bombs down our throats that a premature, messy, early end arrives. Fade to black….
Act 1, Scene 7. Heart of Gold Hostel, Berlin. Thursday.
Rem awakes suddenly. “Where’s my bag?!” Ripp. “It’s in your locker, I’m sure.” Still drunk. Several hours pass… We revisit the Berlin Wall via a wonderful shopping trip in which we spend about 200 euros. Ripp and Rem part company as Rem boards a nightbus to Brussels…
INTERLUDE. The Nightbus.
Old Indian man spends 8 hours hacking up gunk from his throat. Rem reads, writes, texts and plays her iPod until it refuses to play anymore.
Act 2, Scene 1. Gare du Nord, Brussels. Friday.
Rem wanders disorientatedly for an hour, boarding all kinds of buses, trams and metros before finding her hotel a mere 10 minute walk from her starting point. Hotel won’t let her check in until 11am &28three hours away so she wanders the streets of Brussels, stopping for a chat with a Ghanian chair stacker. The rest of the day passes in a blur of sight-seeing and random narcolepsy until 9pm when Rem meets with her long-lost Cuecos, Marc, Julien, Yalcin and new-addition Charlotte. Drinking, drinking, drinking. Too many mojitos. Rem plans a surf trip with a Kiwi.
Act 2, Scene 2. Brussels – Mons, Belgium. Saturday afternoon.
Marc and Rem eat snails, mussels and gallons of garlic butter. Meet Yalcin, Julien and Charlotte. Board a train to Mons to go to a beer festival. It might only be 3pm, but we buy cheap wine and paper cups for the journey. Arrive in Mons and discover that the festival isn’t until the followng day. Never fear, we’re Los Cuecos!! Begin what becomes a complex drinking game which involves Rem giving Marc a piggy back to the other side of a square, Yalcin and Charlotte taking photos with a restaurant manager and Julien asking a random man for his autograph.
Act 2, Scene 3. Brussels. Saturday night.
Tapas &2B four jugs of sangria, then back to Delerium &282004 types of beer under one roof. Continue the drinking games.
