NAME: The Hysterical Injury
SOUNDS LIKE: Noisy pop that draws heavy influences from Sonic Youth, the Pixies as well as mental noise merchants Melt Banana and Lightning Bolt.
LOCATION: Bath, UK
LINE UP: Annie (vocals/bass), Lee (drums)
WHAT’S THE STORY?: Formed in 2007, The Hysterical Injury were originally a three-piece, until the departure of their guitarist in 2008. This didn’t hinder them a jot, and they’ve since supported Fight Like Apes, the Detachments and have an upcoming show with their heroes, Lightning Bolt. Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens love them, and they do a mean Dizzee Rascal cover!
RELEASES: EP ‘Our Lives Are A Futuristic Nightmare’ released in 2009 – available now on iTunes.
GIGS: The Hysterical Injury seem to be continually gigging in Bath and Bristol, and there are regular opportunities to catch them in London and South Wales too – check www.myspace.com/thehystericalinjury for the latest.
THEY SAY: “Stunning” Bethan Elfyn, BBC Radio1 [about the song ‘Adam West’] “This is a classic piece of DIY attitude and energy” Organ Magazine [about the ‘Our Lives Are A Future Nightmare’ EP]
WE SAY: You won’t miss the presence of a six-stringer in HI – frontlady Annie’s tapping, slapping, distorted bass chords, layered over drummer Lee’s monstrous beats, are more than enough to create a full, exhilarating sound. Live, you’ll be blown away by their raw, driving energy and Annie’s sometimes-sweet, sometimes-raging vocals.
YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: the likes of Blood Red Shoes, Violet Violet, and other bands who go big on sound but minimal on members.
