1. Tell us who you are and where you’re from.
We are Blood of The Spectre, mainly known as BOTS and we’re from the sunny town of Basingstoke!!
2. Describe your music.
It has been described as “An onslaught of technical riffs and shredding that will make your ears bleed, mixed with a soundscape of melody and hooks. Bone crushing breakdowns and vocals that scare small children”
3. Tell us how the band formed in three sentences.
We started as a group of mates wanting to make some fresh tasty metal to play and it seemed to take off locally fairly well. This was back in late 2009 mind, and since then line up changes have hindered us…. Then in early 2011 we found Dom our latest guitarist and have kind of re-launched as a band looking to get our music out there once and for all.
4. What did you do before you were in a band?
We were all school/college kids just getting an education whilst listening to metal!
5. List the first CDs/records each of you bought.
Dom- Wheatus album… Couldn’t get much gayer but teenage dirtbag is a quality tune!!
Nick- Korn because I hated what was on the radio at the time
Rich- Green Day – Dookie
Larry- Alien Ant Farm – Anthology… Because their ‘Smooth Criminal’ was awesome!
Tom- Iron Maiden – Number of The Beast… Because my dad told me to. Although I have been in love with them ever since!
6. What’s the band up to over the next few months?
We’ve been nonstop gigging for the last few months getting the Ep out ther as much as we can! So the next couple of months we’re stopping to right new material play the odd show when asked and get a tour booked for the summer! Its gonna be hard work getting the BOTS name out there but we’re all fully committed to it
7. Best item of fan mail you’ve ever received?
Fan mail?! We don’t get any of that shit yet! We do get a lot of facebook comments/messages and a lot of support on online forums! So far all of the support we’ve received from everyone whether it be online or at shows has been amazing!
8. What music do you have on repeat in the tour bus?
The last thing we want to hear on tour whilst we’re listening to it every night is metal!! The van we use doesn’t have speakers so we generally listen to our ipods so it varies. A big favourite though was definitely chilling out to a nice bit of Bob Marley!
9. What gear do you use?
Rich (guitar) – Peavey Valveking 100 stack backed up with a BOSS GT-8 effects processor running a tube screamer and a compressor and reverb/delay for guitar solo’s and an Ibanez RG1570 Prestige guitar.
Dom (guitar) – BLackstar series 1, vox 2×12, a few spoony pedals and a gibson explorer wityh a les paul on back, because i keepu fucking breaking strings!!!!
larry (drummer) – Tama hyperdrive drums, Iron Cobra pedals, Sabian AAX cymbals with a zildjian oriental mini china and mega bell ride cymbal, and black panther blade 5×14 snare, vic firth 5BN sticks
tom (bass) – Hartke 410 Hydrive Cab and have an Ashdown head
10. What’s your best on-tour story?
We’d just played a show in Brighton and were going out to party when we saw a bunch of dudes taking photos of themselves outside a Dominoes pizza with their “Manginas” showing… Being in a drunk state we thought “Fuck yehhhh” and started shouting “Slayer” at them! They decided to chase us/run down the high street shouting “Party party party”… Naturally, after we realised we weren’t going to get raped, we joined in (not with the nakedness) running through the streets of Brighton, picking up random people and generally having a quality time!! Awesome night and pretty sure Larry found the love of his life that night too!
11. What do you demand on your rider?
Riders are another thing we rarely get to have!! Normally just water or free beer! We’ve been given pizza before… but generally we like to go out and talk to bands and the people at the show! We’re not Metallica who can afford ice statues of swans and butlers to suck their cock back stage!
