1. Tell us who you are and where you’re from.: We are Home Video, David Gross and Collin Ruffino. We’re originally from New Orleans, LA, now living and creating in Brooklyn, NY.

2. Describe your music.: An electro-tinted minimalist rock that drives steadily towards the sublime — a spacious soundtrack evocative of a fractured dream.

3. Tell us how the band formed in three sentences.: Collin and I had a high school art class together for four years. We became close friends and started collaborating on music and video projects. After college we ended up living in the same house in Brooklyn, and started making songs as Home Video.

4. What did you do before you were in a band?: I actually worked for Warp Records right after college. Collin had a series of torturous jobs including dishwasher, busboy, babysitter, and video guru for a mad man. Really though, before the band, we were still in school.

5. List the first CDs/records each of you bought.: David – Peter Gabriel – Games Without Frontiers cassette single featuring the Massive Attack remix
Genesis – We Can’t Dance
Sir Mixalot – Baby Got Back

Collin – Michael Jackson -Thriller (vinyl)

6. What’s the band up to over the next few months?: We’ll be doing some touring and heading down to SXSW for the third year. Our record will also be released in the rest of the world at the end of February.

7. Best item of fan mail you’ve ever received?: We got an email from a high school student a few years ago who wrote us from algebra 2 class fighting back tears while listening to a song on our first album.

8. What music do you have on repeat in the tourbus? : We usually make some new playlists for each trip, but recently it’s been a lot of Twin Shadow, Brian Eno, The Big Pink, jj, and John Maus.

9. What gear do you use?: We have a few Novation synths which we love although they’re finnicky, and an MPC1000 for live sequencing. Aside from that, pretty straightforward stuff.

10. What’s your best on-tour story?: That’s a hard one, but a few New Years Eves ago we got to open for Justice at the Congress Theater in Chicago. I was really looking forward to the night, but after we played our set, I drank too much and too fast. I don’t remember anything within a 5 hour window, though I was wearing a camera around my neck and took lots of terrible photos with it. One thing I do remember is trying to speak french with the Justice guys. I don’t speak french so that didn’t go well.

11. What do you demand on your rider?: Nothing! We humbly request that the lighting on stage be blue and dim, and note that we like fog machines. If we are asked about green room provisions, we’ll request a bottle of bourbon, beer, ginger ale, and hummus.

12. What’s your website?:
