1. Tell us who you are and where you’re from.
We are Konrad Barrick, Jamie Steadman, David Bartlett and Lewis Niven. Together, like the big machine thing from Power Rangers, we are Lay Siege from Northampton
2. Describe your music.
Like being pulled through a vat of warm, thick, delicious chocolate, and then getting a slap at the end
3. Tell us how the band formed in three sentences.
We used to watch each other in old bands. We had a jam. Now we’re in this band.
4. What did you do before you were in a band?
The same things we do now we’re in a band! We all have 9-5 jobs. Konrad works for a logistics company, Jamie is a draughtsman for a steel fabricators, Bartlett works in estimating and Lewis is a team leader in a Tesco phone shop. Rock and roll!
5. List the first CDs/records each of you bought.
Konrad – Blink-182, Take off Your Pants and Jacket
Jamie – Linkin Park, Meteora
Bartlett – Linkin Park, Hybrid Theory (The real answer is actually Will Smith, Willenium)
Lewis – Blink-182, Enema of the State
6. What’s the band up to over the next few months?
After joining Kings Agency recently we are re-releasing our debut record and releasing our debut music video for the track “Explorer”. We are also in the process of writing our debut full-length album, and we plan to be touring later in the year.
7. Best item of fan mail you’ve ever received?
Not fan mail per se, but we had a plug from Rinoa before which was pretty cool. There is also a guy who comes to our local shows who told us very passionately that the ending to “Solitary Confinement” is “the best piece of music [he has] ever heard”. He’s a decent guy but he should probably get out a bit more.
8. What music do you have on repeat in the tourbus?
For something that we can all get behind and enjoy, it’s probably The Ghost Inside – Returners. But we also like top sing-along classics, like Kiss From a Rose by Seal for example.
9. What gear do you use?
Jamie – ESP guitars, Ernie Ball “Beefy Slinkys”, .88 Dunlop plectrums, Marshall DSL, Marshall 1960 cab, Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb and a few other pedals
Bartlett – Fender Jazz Bass, Hartke HA3500 Head, 4×10 and 1×15 Hartke Cabs, Big Muff Pedal, Rotosound Strings, Strictly Blue Plectrums
Lewis – Sonor Force 3005 Maple Drums, Sabian Cymbals (AAX-Plosion 18” crash, Chad Smith 21” crash, AAX-Polsion 15” China, Sabian AA Rock hats). Mapex Black Panther 14×5.5” Steel Snare, Iron Cobra double kick pedal.
10. What’s your best on-tour story?
We got kicked out of a youth club venue in Daventry and told we would never play there again because first of all, it got too crazy during our set, and then during another bands set Konrad kept crowd surfing even after being told not to. As we were loading out, the woman who ran the venue took Konrad into her office, broke down in tears, retracted all of her threats, begged us to play there again and told Konrad he was her favourite front man of all time. We haven’t been back
11. What do you demand on your rider?
I don’t think we’re quite in the position yet to be making demands. No home-made chili though
12. What’s your website?
We use a few social networking sites but the best place to catch everything is facebook.com/laysiege and don’t forget to “Like” the page!
