INTERVIEW: Loftdaddy

RHV: Tell us who you are and where you're from?.
Loft Daddy are Niroshan Sirisena (vocals/guitar) from Sussex, Matt Saunders (bass) from Croydon, Robert Logan (guitar) and David Westcott (drums) both from Essex. We are based in New Cross, South East London

RHV: Describe your music.
NS: Can we leave it to the reader answer that one? Trying to describe ourselves is hard... we're just a rock 'n' roll band!

RHV: Tell us how the band formed in three sentences.
NS: It was gladiatorial, you know... survival of the fittest. RL: Many were lost along the way. NS: Actually, we formed at Goldsmiths College after meeting at a social drinking enterprise.

RHV: What did you do before you were in a band?
MS: I' ve always been in a band!! RL: Went to Art College DW: Well, motorcycles... football... building huts in the woods. NS: I'd always wanted to be in a band, so nothing of real note apart from school, cricket, DJing.

RHV: List the first CDs/records each of you bought.
MS: 'Hey You The Rocksteady Crew' by the Rocksteady Crew. RL: 'I Wish' by Skee-Lo. DW: 'Pictures Of Matchstick Men'. NS: Ah, Status Quo. DW: Yeah, they're old. Just like me! NS: 'Legend' Bob Marley

RHV: What's the band up to over the next few months?
RL: We'll be playing a bucket-load of gigs all over England and Europe, promoting our upcoming videos, whilst continuing to put together a new body of material for an album.

RHV: Best item of fan mail you've ever received?
NS: No fan mail, but one of my students recently wrote a review of a Loft Daddy gig in both French and English. The French one sounds quite sexy when you read it back..

RHV: What music do you have on repeat in the tourbus?
MS: Dave and Rob's cars constitute our tourbus. NS: We often listen back to our rehearsal tapes to see where we can improve. DW: Or to listen to new ideas. NS: If we're in Rob's car, I believe Them Crooked Vultures and Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip have featured recently.

RHV: What gear do you use?
NS: A Gibson SG Special Cherry Faded and a Marshall Valvestate, MS: Warwick Rock Bass, Peavey Standard 160 Head, a 2x10 Peavey Cab with a horn, a Boss GT6B, a Roland PK5 and an EMU E6400 Ultra, RL: A Fender Stratocaster '57 Reissue, Gretsch Electromatic with Bigsby, Boss GT8, Fender Hotrod Deluxe Amp. DW: A DW Drumkit

RHV: What's your best on tour story?
NS: There was one gig a couple of years ago when we were coming back from Brighton in a rented van from Peckham. It broke down somewhere deep in the Sussex countryside. Something smelt REAL bad and the autorescue company number we'd been given just wasn't picking up the phone. We were preparing to spend a long night on the road when I remembered that seeing as that this was my neighbourhood, I'd give my mate a call. He gave half of the crew a lift to Gatwick, where we got a cab back to London. Rob, however, had to wait a little longer - albeit in the company of his wife... RL: Eventually, the dodgy rescue firm showed up and towed us back to London. I had parked my car next to the hire firm. I was tired, cold and extremely pissed off. Imagine my dismay when my girlfriend locked the car with my keys inside!! I had to open my car... with a hammer. Happy days...

RHV: What do you demand on your rider?
DW: Tea. MS: Milk. NS: and Sugar! We drink a LOT of tea... RL: Any form of meat. NS: Cooked or uncooked? RL: Doesn't matter. Just ANY type of meat.

RHV: What's your website?
