INTERVIEW: XisForEyes

1. Tell us who you are and where you’re from.: We are XisForEyes and all hail from surrounding areas of Newcastle Upon Tyne. You’re speaking with Phil (Guitar).

2. Describe your music.: We combine a wide range of influences and don’t take ourselves too seriously. Our music has always been deathcore, however we have recently started to utilise orchestration in strings, keys and even woodwind and brass.
A great deal of influence was taken from Black Metal when writing ‘Insidious Existentialism’ and that will be expanded upon with our forthcoming songs.

3. Tell us how the band formed in three sentences.: We always had the basis for the band (Myself, Ant – Bass, Kory – Drums) and over the years have had a few changes of guitarist.
After our original singer left, we felt the band needed a new direction. We were at the beach pondering this, when our current singer Moff emerged from the sea, his voice; affected by years of swallowing salty water and some how smoking drum baccy, had the exact unique quality that we were looking for and things progressed from there!

4. What did you do before you were in a band?: I was at school! Pretty much just put work off, played Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorow on the Xbox and ate Cadbury’s Mini Rolls. Life has been downhill ever since.

5. List the first CDs/records each of you bought.: Cant speak for the other lads but I think mine was actually… Will Smith’s ‘Big Willie Style’ haha.
First metal CD was ‘Master of Puppets’ by Metallica, bet Lars is happy I didn’t snag that one on Napster.

6. What’s the band up to over the next few months?: We’re heading out on a mini-tour next week:
23/03/11 – The Market Vaults, Durham
24/03/11 – The Croft, Bristol
25/03/11 – The Cavern, Middlesborough
26/03/11 – Milkwood Jam, Swansea
27/03/11 – Yorkshire House, Lancaster

Our good friend Alex Baillie (Ex- Soulfracture) is playing guitar for us on these dates.
After which we will be releasing our second video for ‘Ubiquitous Deterrent’ taken from “Insidious Existentialism”.
We’re also really excited to be writing new material that we plan to release in the summer, along with a July tour.

7. Best item of fan mail you’ve ever received?: I once recieved a photo of a dog’s hind end, with my face as the arsehole! ahaha

8. What music do you have on repeat in the tourbus? : We listen to everything, anything from N.W.A. to David Bowie, Cannibal Corpse to Herb Albert & The Tijauana Brass.
All kinds of Metal, Hardcore, Hip-Hop, Grime, Indie and even Smooth FM ocassionally for a bit of afternoon delight!
Also, everyone should check out D-DEVILS if you like german house, that shit gets us pumped up.

9. What gear do you use?: Bogner, PRS, ESP, Jackson, Schecter, Peavey, Marshall etc. Oh and Kory plays a set of bins like Oscar the Grouch.

10. What’s your best on-tour story?: We have a few…
When on tour in Derby, we called into an ASDA superstore to clean our teeth ha. Upon entering, we realised that none other than Ross Kemp was signing books. We got a picture with him (attached) and he signed a book ‘To XFE, good luck on tour. Ross Kemp.’ Haha.

11. What do you demand on your rider?: Haha we’re not picky. Some form of energy drink and some savoury snacks. Best we ever recieved was a loaf of
wholemeal bread, some ham, cheese and plums! Butter too, dude even let us keep the knife. None of that is
any good to Moff though, he is a level 5 vegan and doesn’t eat anything that casts a shadow.

12. What’s your website?: http://www.facebook.com/xisforeyes
