INTERVIEW: Dear Acetate

RHV: Tell us who you are and where you're from?.
Dear Acetate are Stee J, from Blackpool, Marc, from Hemel Hempstead, Shane, from Ireland, Sonny, from Glasgow.  No idea where Rob is from - we found him in a field dancing to the sound of his own madness.

RHV: Describe your music.
Guitar-driven dance-rock.

RHV: Tell us how the band formed in three sentences.
Shane and Marc went to uni together, and Shane wanted a guitar player like Marc in his band - someone who could play a variety of mental chords that had never been heard before.  The duo then found Stee J via a lonely hearts page, adding vocals to the mix, and Sonny - a long-time fan of the band, infiltrated their ranks, following an unfortunate accident to the incumbent bass player (we gave him the benefit of the doubt that foul play was not involved). Rob used to be in a band that wore make-up and orange boiler suits - he simply had to join.

RHV: What did you do before you were in a band?
We’ve all been involved with music and done bands going back a long while, but prior to Dear Acetate we all studied music in some shape or form.  Stee studied Popular Music at Leeds Uni, Marc and Shane did Creative Music Tech at Sheffield Uni, Rob studied music at uni in Bristol.  Sonny did music at college, and nearly went on to uni to study horology, but couldn't find the time.

RHV: List the first CDs/records each of you bought.
Stee J - Adam & the Ants.  Loved the facepaint and was massively intrigued. Marc - Blur's Country House single (on tape!) Rob - Pearl Jam's Binaural. Shane - Moby's Everything Is Wrong. Sonny - The Revolting Clockmaker by The Fruity Five.

RHV: What's the band up to over the next few months?
Releasing our debut album, Lost Days & Nights.  Selling millions of copies of said album at the gigs we're going to play.  Meeting all of your readers at said gigs.  Marc is starting his vintage lawnmower collection.

RHV: Best item of fan mail you've ever received?
Here's a letter we received from an American. "i really really enjoy your music. it is quite spectacularly wonderful. and infact i heard of you through a friend. me and her each recommend each other one band a day to see if the other likes it. she recommended you guys to me, and as soon as i heard siging in your music, i broke out in goosebumps:~) you guys are so amazing that you do what so many musicians and band fail to do, you give me the chills because you are so amazing. that's how i know good music, when my body doesn't know how to react to such amazing vocals:P you guys are very good and i wish you guys the best of luck on your way through the ranks of music:) i thank you very much for your wonderful music and i hope you guys have a wonderful day. thank you and keep up the amazing work:~) you are very well appreciated"

RHV: What music do you have on repeat in the tourbus?
Boy Kill Boy, Arctic Monkeys, Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, Muse, Bowie, Nutmeg Punkle.  All the greats.

RHV: What gear do you use?
First. Drive it like you stole it.

RHV: What's your best on tour story?
http://www.dearacetate.com

RHV: What do you demand on your rider?
Well we've supported The Proclaimers and The Wonder Stuff, so those were great shows to play.  But during an acoustic show at a local pub, some drunk asked Marc mid-song if he could use his guitar to serenade a stranger he'd taken a shine to (this bloke had already come to one of our previous shows, picked up a drum and started playing along).  Obviously, Marc was not too pleased, and declined.  This bloke thought he would exact revenge by calling Marc a "trendy indie w*nker", whopping out his schlong and urinating on his new white shoes.  Great gig.
