AWOLNATION have confirmed the release of a new single ‘Not Your Fault’ on 2nd April and a live show in London on 28th May. Currently storming up the US Alternative Charts (No. 4) with almost 100,000 sales the track is taken from the band’s debut album ‘Megalithic Symphony’ which has its full UK and European release on 7th May 2012 on Red Bull Records.
The gigs are rescheduled headline appearances due to their previously announced February dates having to be cancelled due to singer, Aaron Bruno, taking ill. The London show was part of the HMV Next Big Thing run of nights, and the original support acts – the hotly-tipped Arcane Roots and Invaders will both appear on the date. Existing tickets for are valid for the new event. Bruno said “I am very excited to be coming back to London to make up for our recently cancelled shows. It was a terrible feeling being too sick to perform, and now it’s just really important for us to come back and put on the kind of night our fans deserve, and hopefully they will find it worth the wait.” AWOLNATION are currently touring in the US including a stop at this year’s Coachella festival and hope to come to the UK and Europe for further dates in the summer.
“Not Your Fault” is the band’s 2nd consecutive Top 5 Alternative hit in the US. Their first single, “Sail,” peaked at number 5, where it stayed for 5 weeks, and has sold almost 1 million downloads to date. Their album was the number 1 Billboard Heatseekers Album of 2011 for seven weeks and is approaching 200,000 sales.
In addition to selling out multiple headlining tours in the United States, AWOLNATION has also performed on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel Live. The band came to the UK in September 2011 when they played London and Manchester around the release of the track ‘Sail’. The track was added to playlists on Radio 1, Kerrang! FM and XFM and the video was picked up by MTV and QTV.
‘Megalithic Symphony’ features 14 tracks covering a vast spectrum of music, combining rock and electronic music to powerful effect, managing to be both incredibly abrasive but delicious poppy at the same time. Musically, it’s imbued with Bruno’s incredibly ambitious aspirations, yet tempered lyrically with his modest, soul-searching outlook. From the glorious poppy hooks of ‘Jump On My Shoulders’ through the scuzzy, grunge-meets pop sensibilities of ‘Guilty Filthy Soul’, and, of course, the gritty catchiness of ‘Sail’, it’s that combination – of a variety of genres, of feel-good choruses mixed with sad yet hopeful sentiments, of joy and nostalgia, of elation and depression and desperation – that makes this genre blending album so uniquely irresistible.
The Tim Burton inspired video for “Not Your Fault” sees front man Aaron Bruno and his band drifting into a brilliantly bizarre animated sci-fi caper, battling a deranged abominable snow beast to dodging bullets fired from a lizard like sea-creature before being incinerated…the list goes on! The surreal animated odyssey can be found on the band’s You Tube channel – www.youtube.com/AWOLNATIONand has now inspired a game which has been released as a free app designed for both iPhone and iPad and can be downloaded here – http://bit.ly/y5cEpw and The Megalithic Mayhem game is also available on the web at www.MegalithicMayhem.com and as a Facebook app at http://apps.facebook.com/megalithicmayhem. The single has already been added to the XFM and Kerrang! Radio playlists.
