Cynic Guru album news!

Cynic Guru release their stunning pop rock anthem Catastrophe on US Independence Day. A brooding radio track armed with hooks and masterful guitars and violin play from lead singer and Cynic Guru brainchild violinist Roland Hartwell.

Hartwell is a Japanese/American violinist with The Iceland Symphony Orchestra, along with Bassist Ricky Korn, also an American. Cynic Guru, originating from Hartwell’s roots in Los Angeles, began in 1993, and was transplanted to Reykjavik, Iceland in 2001, where Hartwell began his work with the symphony. After appearing at Iceland’s biggest music festival, The Iceland Airwaves, Cynic Guru was signed to the biggest record label in Iceland, Sena Records.

The bands first official album release Iceland spawned a number 1 with the track Drugs. Soon afterwards, Cynic Guru were signed by the Manchester label Fat Northerner Records and embarked on their first UK Tour.

Their second album entitled Cynic Guru was released via Fat Northerner Records and was awarded UK radio play including Radio 1 and was featured in the Independent newspaper. Not content with their UK success the band were then snapped up by Step Records in Tbilisi, Georgia, where they were asked to participate in two music festivals. Two Georgian tours followed, playing in front of a combined tour audience of almost 25,000 people.

Cynic Guru’s tentacles continued to spread further when they were signed a licensing contract with Westwood Records in Japan, and released a Japanese version of Iceland. Remastered by acclaimed producer Taka Nanri (Producer of Kitaro, famed Japanese New Age Artist). 2011 saw the band become the first band signed to The Birdman Records and Catastrophe is the start of a process to re-introduce the band to UK music fans.

Having played at every Iceland Airwaves Music Festival since 2005, Cynic Guru are yet again slated to perform at this year’s festival, and are currently in the studio working on their third album.

Cynic Guru are: Roland Hartwell (USA) on electric violin, guitars, and vocals; Ricky Korn (USA) on bass; Franz Gunnarsson (ICELAND) on vocals and lead guitars; and Þórhallur Stefánsson (ICELAND) on drums.
