Play 2010 FIFA World Cup with Deftones

Versatile alternative metal band Deftones, just off the release of their latest album Diamond Eyes, will visit Xbox LIVE® to play Gold Members in 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa(TM). If you’re a Gold Member (if you’re not a Member you can upgrade here: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/goldBenefits.htm) join Xbox Tuesday, May 18, starting at 8:00 p.m. EST and meet the legendary band.

Send a friend request to the gamertag Deftones GwF and be online half an hour before (7:30 p.m. EST) the Game with Fame session starts.

Deftones don’t easily fit into the standard music categories, and that’s why their fans love them. With the recent release of Diamond Eyes, their sixth studio album (with another one, Eros, already recorded but not yet released), the band continues to cement their position as one of the most interesting and innovative hardcore bands around. Coming after the terrible auto accident that affected bassist Chi Cheng, the album serves as a paean to him but is also a new direction for the band as vocalist Chino Moreno notes. “After Chi’s accident, it would have been easy for us to make a sad record,” says Moreno. “It felt like there was a cloud around us, so we aimed to make something uplifting. I think that’s why there’s a lot of fantasy stuff on the record. I tried to take it away from day to day life, and make it more about the abstract, about art. It sounds odd, but really, this is an optimistic record.”

Deftones consists of lead vocalist Chino Moreno, guitarist Stephen Carpenter, bassist Sergio Vega, keyboard artist Frank Delgado, and drummer Abe Cunningham. If you want to hear the Deftones sound, check out their music videos now available on Zune Marketplace on Xbox LIVE.

If you get a chance to play with Deftones, Xbox wants to hear all about it! They’ll be posting recaps from gamers all across the country. Send an email to xboxgwf@live.com with the subject “GWF — Deftones,” and be sure to include your gamertag and hometown!
