Dieter Schoon – Mary Jane

Artist: Dieter Schoon
Single: Mary Jane
Label: Headspin
Year: 2009
Rating: 4/5

Well if ‘Mary Jane’ isn’t a cover of the Megadeth classic, then what the hell is it? Answering that question is more difficult than you can image if you’ve not already heard this record. Image Depeche Mode hooking up with Beck and you’ve not got an accurate description, but an obligatory journalistic comparison that’ll at least help you understand the kind of musicianship we’re dealing with. Smooth electronic trickery, smooth bass lines, very little regard for convention, a nod to his homeland and intelligent lyrics are what this Gothenburg maestro is all about. If you’re not looking forward to the release of the album ‘Lablaza’ in March, then you bloody well should be!
