THE SO SO GLOS ‘TOURISM / TERRORISM’ THE DEBUT MINI-ALBUM RELEASED 7th DECEMBER ON GREEN OWL

Bold, rough, artful and sincere, The So So Glos are Brooklyn’s very own bar band; ‘local legends’ with the city’s soundtrack in their arsenal. The debut mini-album Tourism / Terrorism gets its UK release here on 7th December on Green Owl.

This is ‘extremely non-fiction punk rock’ The Glos declare on their own blog and its spirit won’t be denied. Be it a stripped down love song, or a raucous anthem, through the electro MPC breaks, surf sounds, gang vox, and a little tambo, there are the echoes of Dylan as much as Richard Hell.

Four brothers – two blood, a step, and one inducted – with the metropolis pumping through their veins; the ‘Rich kids in the hungry neighborhoods’ on My Block; a ‘sale on isolation’ in the crookedly melodic Isn’t It A Shame; and in Island Loops a dream of New York’s streets of gold, reborn in a crowded dancehall.

This is all the strange, exciting and paralyzing times we live in wrapped up in vital punk and romantic realism, “Underneath the universe there’s a crime rate and there’s a war… “

Beginning with their roots in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn the Glos have been a workhorse in the music and art community of their own borough. The band briefly settling down between tours to co-found (with Todd P) the landmark all ages venue, Market Hotel. A place that is both their home and community; brews, smokes and music blasting, the J train crushing along the tracks outside, non-stop.

When Tourism / Terrorism first emerged stateside late last year, its febrile energy, empathy and literate distaste at a fractured world, became the underground soundtrack to an uneasy election run-in. At 27 minutes long it is somewhere between EP and album “a shortplayer…” say’s frontman Alex “for the trigger happy iPod generation”.

Following a US tour with Titus Andronicus and European dates with The Virgins, The So So Glos hit the UK in November for following dates:

NOVEMBER 17th, LONDON Buffalo Bar (www.ticketweb.co.uk ); 18th LONDON, VICE Issue Launch@Old Blue Last (www.theoldbluelast.com ); 19th LONDON, Camden Barfly (www.barflyclub.com ); 20th LONDON, Bronze Club@The Macbeth (www.myspace.com/thebronzeclub ); 21st LONDON, Be@Proud Galleries Camden (www.be-at.co.uk ); 22nd LONDON, The Flowerpot (www.flowerpotlondon.com )

Green Owl is a New York City-based record label started by artists for artists with the idea that great music can be sustainable—both economically and environmentally. Green Owl is committed to respecting this planet through the use of green technology.
