Sunday Driver, abstractly named after a gene commonly found in mice, are well known for their curiosity for experimenting with new sounds. The current line up includes clarinet, tabla, sitar, concert harp, guitar and vocals – and even a pair of dessert spoons. The band has played well over 100 gigs together over the years. Highlights include Cambridge Folk Festival, Edinburgh Mela, Secret Garden Festival and a gig with the Grand Union Jazz Orchestra at the Cambridge Corn Exchange. Alongside this Sunday Driver have enjoyed radio appearances on Mel and Sue’s BBC London radio show, numerous appearances on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and airplay on Classic FM’s Chiller Cabinet. Their songs have been used on soundtracks, including the soundtrack for the award-winning BBC Radio 4 documentary “Leprosy: A forgotten disease.”
The album ‘In The City Of Dreadful Night’ was launched in Cambridge in October at a Victorian-themed night featuring Raindance Film Festival nominated artist and poet Beyonder. Playwright Craig Baxter described the show as “an immersion into the strange and original world of Sunday Driver…as colourful and varied an evening’s entertainment as you could hope to find anywhere, anytime’. The launch included additional music and theatrics from renowned gypsy folk artists Gabby Young and Other Animals, Edinburgh festival performer and comedienne Helen Arney, and burlesque artiste the divine Miss Tallulah Mockingbird.
