Larmer Tree Festival announces Mark Kermode’s Film Club!

14th-18th July 2010 – Larmer Tree Gardens, Wiltshire/Dorset border

Renowned film critic Mark Kermode is set to curate an intimate film event at the 20th anniversary Larmer Tree Festival. Mark will show eight of his all time favourite films, offering an insight into the outspoken critic’s most cherished pieces of cinema. In addition to this, Mark’s own band The Dodge Brothers will perform an exclusive live musical accompaniment to the 1928 silent movie Beggars of Life.

Mark and his band have a long running relationship with the festival; he says: “As a long-time Larmer Tree regular, I’m thrilled to be hosting this film club which brings together my two greatest passions – movies and music – and celebrates the strange magic of the moving image for audiences of all ages.”

As one of the country’s most respected film experts, Mark will be showcasing celluloid masterpieces, including Silent Running, Brazil and Mary Poppins. Mark will also include one of his guilty pleasures, in the form of Angelina Jolie’s breakout film Hackers.

Larmer Tree Festival are extremely pleased to welcome Mark Kermode’s band to perform as part of the Film Club experience. This innovative live music and film performance will see Mark, along with his double bass and accordion – perform to the classic silent film Beggars of Life. The Dodge Brothers, with special guest pianist Neil Brand, perform their own particular brand of Americana to William Wellman’s legendary tale of Depression-era, rail-riding hobos played by the iconic Louise Brookes and Jim Arlen.

Mark Kermode’s Film Club will take place between Thursday 15th and Sunday 18th of July in the charming Victorian pavilion within the Larmer Tree Gardens. This intimate and distinctive location will add further delight to the unique celebration of music and film.

Continuing to demonstrate Larmer Tree’s dedication to offering the most diverse of festival experiences, Mark Kermode’s Film Club is a exclusive offering for the audiences of the Wiltshire/Dorset festival. Arguably the strongest programme in the festival’s history, the festival offers a huge array of world-class live acts, hilarious stand up comedy,150 free workshops, theatre and talks, site art, a dedicated kids’ zone, amongst other unforgettable attractions.

Confirmed performers at this year’s Larmer Tree Festival include Toots and the Maytals, Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra with special guest Alison Moyet, Martha Wainwright, Robert Cray, Toumani Diabaté, Newton Faulkner and Frank Turner. Highlights of the festival’s Comedy Club include Russell Howard, Rich Hall and David O’Doherty.

A full five day ticket is priced at £184 for adults, £152 for 11-17 year olds and £124 for 5-10 year olds, with entrance for under fives free of charge. Four day, three day and one day tickets are also available. Camping and parking are completely free for all five days!
