Pilgrims’ Way offer us some Wayside Courtesies

Bound together not only by their goal of recharging trad folk but also by red hair and shares in an ex-Ellesmere Port tar boat, North West trio Tom Kitching, Lucy Wright and Edwin Beasant met in The Crown pub underneath the mighty, Lowry-inspiring Stockport Viaduct.

With a quirky, stand-out voice and a teeth-jangling penchant for Jew’s harp playing, 26 year-old Siberian music student Lucy joined forces with fiddler and BBC Young Musician of Year nominee Kitching and multi instrumental wiz Beasant. Naming themselves after the Kipling life creed poem they hit the ground running earlier this year, stamping their feisty, feelgood take on trad folk firmly on the acoustic scene with a mix of ‘devil may care’ tunes, dewy eyed love laments and ‘cross dressing’ ballads!

Armed only with an eponymous promo EP they quickly emerged with national airplay and an enviable raft of UK festivals and club gigs running throughout 2011 with Sidmouth, Shrewsbury, Warwick, Fylde and Broadstairs festivals still to come.

Wayside Courtesies is released on July 11 on the Fellside label and distributed by Proper Distribution and will be officially launched at the Warwick Folk Festival at the end of July.
