Sunday Best @ The Alternative Escape

CAMP BESTIVAL PRESENTS
SUNDAY BEST AT THE ALTERNATIVE ESCAPE, BRIGHTON
FRIDAY 14TH MAY 2010 | 9PM-3AM | AT THE FORTUNE OF WAR

Featuring:
BEARDYMAN – LIVE
DAVID E. SUGAR – LIVE
SOUND OF RUM – LIVE
FEAR OF THEYDON – DJ
SOMBRERO SOUND SYSTEM – DJ

CAMP BESTIVAL and SUNDAY BEST RECORDINGS are heading to the Brighton seaside on FRIDAY 14TH MAY for a very special intimate knees-up mother-brown as part of THE ALTERNATIVE ESCAPE (the fringe event to The Great Escape Festival). Our party will be at THE FORTUNE OF WAR pub in the arches right down on the seafront.

And what a party we’ve got in store with EXCLUSIVE LIVE SHOWS from forthcoming Sunday Best Recordings artists BEARDYMAN, DAVID E. SUGAR and SOUND OF RUM, plus DJ action from FEAR OF THEYDON and our resident DJs SOMBRERO SOUND SYSTEM.

BEARDYMAN is the overwhelmingly talented Darren Foreman. His best thing since sliced bread and butter vibe began with him smashing up the standard for beatboxing, becoming the heavyweight UK champion, ticking the WIN box twice for title of UK Beatboxer back to back in 2006/07 (& in 2008 he was the judge). But Beatboxing has its musical limits so Beardyman went a step further to inject it full of knife-edge music technology. Using up to 4 Korg Kaoss Pad IIIs and state of the art looping technology enables him to improvise live on stage to create tracks that may take weeks in the studio, using the very vanguard of Live Music Production to build sonic soundscapes; a pistol duel at dawn with the capabilities of top DJs. Like some sort of musical Victor Frankenstein, on stage he works the sonic vernacular into mind-expanding mashups using the sole instrument of his voice. His diversity and ability to musically evolve makes his skills truly exciting, probably the reason our very own Rob da Bank called him “literally the most entertaining live human being I’ve seen in donkey’s years” and then signed him up to our label. www.myspace.com/beardyman

DAVID E. SUGAR has firmly cemented himself as one of the most promising talents on the UK underground and is regarded by his peers as one of the most creative artists around. He’s a multi-talented singer, songwriter and producer who has previously released music on Kitsuné and Joe Hot Chip’s Greco-Roman label. His forthcoming single ‘Party Killer’ on Sunday Best looks set to propel him to stardom and his new full live band show is sure to be the talk of Brighton. www.myspace.com/davidsugar

SOUND OF RUM are rapper and spokenword poet Kate Tempest, drummer Ferry Lawrenson and guitarist/bassist/loop-pedalist Archie Marsh. Kate Tempest is already a seasoned and prolific lyricist and live performer and Sound of Rum are undoubtedly one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the UK live hip-hop and spoken word scenes yet, as seen recently on tour with dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip. Miss them at your peril! www.myspace.com/soundofrumband

FEAR OF THEYDON is a Sunday Best stalwart who first came to prominence with his blistering and quite frankly massive remixes of well-known pop types like Kate Bush and New Order. Which is most likely why Rob da Bank has cunningly got him to remix every single to come out on the Sunday Best label since! Now comes an eagerly awaited album of original Fear of Theydon material, due later this year and featuring collaborations with singers Simon Lord (Simian/Black Ghosts), Mantler, La Rudd (Grand National), Rachael Dadd and Spaceships Are Cool. www.myspace.com/fearoftheydon

SOMBRERO SOUND SYSTEM are Sunday Best and Bestival’s resident DJs, spinning tunes from across the musical spectrum for your dancing pleasure. Ole! www.myspace.com/sombrerosoundsystem

The Fortune of War is small but beautifully formed venue… we recommend you get down there early!
