TWIN SHADOW REMIX OF SURFER BLOOD’S ‘FLOATING VIBES’

‘Floating Vibes’ is quite possibly the anthem of the summer. Its instantly infectious, with urgent grungey riffs, handclaps, Beach Boys-esque harmonising and a big swirling chorus. It should no doubt sound incredible when played at Reading and Leeds this weekend, and again when they support Interpol on tour this Autumn.

Much hyped Brookly based Twin Shadow ( George Lewis Junior) is on remix duties here. Recently signed to Chris ‘Grizzly Bear’ Taylor’s label, Terrible Records, the name has been buzzed and blogged and talked about everywhere in the last few months. ‘Floating Vibes’ is morphed into a dreamy, multi-layered masterpiece, as warped vocal snippets fade in and out, all to the backdrop of a bass-line which sounds like its borrowed from an 80’s maverick, (with Sting initially springing to mind). It’s a far more delicate affair, and as much as the lyrics suit the urgency of the original, they nestle perfectly alongside this quieter arrangement.
