VATICAN CELLARS – Bitter Plans free download single

“Bitter Plans” –

“Bitter Plans” is the first single from The Vatican Cellars debut album The Same Crooked Worm, due for release in November 2010 on Where It’s At Is Where You Are Records ( The b-side features a rather unlikely version of “Runnin’ with the Devil” by Van Halen, which was originally recorded for an album of songs from 1978.

Influenced by folk, country and classical music, The Vatican Cellars’ quintessentially English delivery belie a transatlantic connection with the Californian born The Birthday Girl teaming up with English gent Simon Hughes to form a band to help exorcize feelings of loss after the death of loved ones.

The album The Same Crooked Worm deals with the various aspects of grief and “Bitter Plans” falls under the ‘guilt’ category. With a gorgeous acoustic guitar intro, the song is full of angst and as angry as a very English folk song will allow. Although dealing with very challenging subject matter the song is hauntingly beautiful and compelling.

The cover of “Runnin’ With the Devil” is underpinned with mournful cello and is transformed into a rather sad song about loneliness and desperation.

Live Dates:
28 September: The Hangover Lounge at The Lexington, London (FREE)
9 October: World International John Peel Day at Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes
