Absent Elk – Emily

NAME: Absent Elk
SINGLE: Emily
YEAR: 7th March
LABEL: Amazon Records
RATING: 3/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Bouncy, happy indie for numbers.

LOCATION: Brighton

LINE UP: Kjetil Morland – Vocals/Acoustic Guitar, Ric Wilson – Drums/Backing Vocals, James Penhallow – Bass, Ross Martin – Guitar/Keys, Mike Hillman – Guitar/Backing Vocals

WHAT’S THE STORY?: It feels like indie-pop upstarts Absent Elk are gunning for a 2010 chart victory with this innocent, radio-friendly venture.

SOUNDS LIKE: Absent Elk are going for an anthem here. Its glossy, radio friendly and catchy and it follows on in the same vein as Kaiser Chiefs and The Hoosiers, containing no offence or danger but packed with bucketfuls of melody. It’s a big pop song, with the drive focused on making everyone able to hum to the chorus after, oh about one and half listens. You should probably expect them to receive some fame this year. You will most definitely hear it in Topshop at some point.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: Top ten indie smashers, the word ‘Emily’.
