Alan McKim – Elated

NAME: Alan McKim
SINGLE : Elated
YEAR: 16th April 2010
LABEL: None
RATING: 2/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Change the vocalist for success.

LOCATION: Paisley, UK

LINE UP: Alan McKim: vocals/guitars / Gavin Morris: drums/vocals / The Beatman: bass / Digger Barnes: keys/vocals/percussion / Craig Johnston: guitars

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Perhaps deliberately vague, Alan McKim’s press release declares the wobbly-voiced one “is steadily progressing with a musical career which is brimming with commercial promise.” Any further information on how or what McKim has done to receive that remark is distinctly spliced. Apart from working with a long list of song writers (so, he doesn’t write his own music then?), we’re left in the dark. Oh, other than mention of a support slot with Britpop oldie Brett Anderson, and they sold out The Captain’s Rest. Is that a hospice?

SOUNDS LIKE: someone wrote a half decent song with moving piano dynamics and tasty structural variety, but then had an epileptic fit whilst singing over it.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: to imagine James Blunt has finally gone insane from his army years, and is squatting in a dark cupboard, eyes-glazed, teeth grinding – all recorded on a black box. I’d pay to see that live, at least.
