WHAT’S THE STORY?: Bruce Springsteen is one of the most revered names in music, and rightly so, but a residual effect of the icon’s popularity has been the influx of bands who are attempting to replicate his excellence.

With this in mind, it is comforting to hear that All Down But 9 have found a musical formula which acknowledges the great man, but never sounds contrived. The Sheffield-based four-piece have composed a praiseworthy first release that has all the prerequisites for underground success.

‘With The Ghost Of Old’ is more polished than the Wimbledon trophy and boasts a punk-rock rhythm that will leave fans of The Gaslight Anthem salivating, while ‘Health, Love, Patience and A Restless Soul’ is an introspective offering which is packed with charming melody. Closing the E.P, ‘Cold Hard Ground’ merges the mellow feel of its preceding track with a punk-rock edge, showcasing the band’s versatility and emphasising their unerring qualities.

SOUNDS LIKE: Bruce Springsteen, The Gaslight Anthem, The National.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: Earnest and heartfelt music is what your iTunes library screams out for.
