Ash – Binary

SINGLE : Binary
YEAR: 24th May 2010
LABEL: Atomic Heart Records

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Give me back Uncle Pat!

LOCATION: Northern Ireland

LINE UP: Tim Wheeler (vocals, guitars) / Mark Hamilton (bass) / Rick McMurray (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Formed back in 1992, Ash are really one of few bands who have stood the test of time and are still gigging and releasing records at the same pace they always have. Whilst it’d be easy for them to become contrived and predictable, there’s no chance they could be accused of that. Since their garage-rock days circa ‘Trailer’ and ‘1977’, the Northern Irish three-piece have taken a meandering and fruitful route to arrive at their current status. Now accomplished in their field of electro-frayed indie pop, Ash have been releasing a suite of 26 singles titled A – Z. ‘Binary’ is letter Q.

SOUNDS LIKE: well-produced, blazing electro-indie, guaranteed to be a hit in student clubs across the UK. Wheeler’s voice is more suited to the raucous sounds of their early days, which can’t be topped. Kudos to the boys for moving with the times though.
