Bad Moon – The Real Sound of Mooching

Artist: Bad Moon
Album: The Real Sound of Mooching
Label: Bad Moon Music
Year: 2008
Rating: 2/5

Bad Moon reckon that their style is for fans of U2 or the Doors. Where in heaven’s name they got that from I have no idea. They’re nothing like melodic, emotionally powerful or even listenable enough to be compared to either. In fact, they’re more of the Nickelback genre; in this case, one lead singer attempting to belt out the notes to cover up the fact that his voice and note-holding ability aren’t actually very good. Apart from that, I swear that all five tracks on the album are in the same key and at more or less the same tempo, though in ‘Elate You’ they manage to break into 3/4 rather than the bog-standard 4/4.

I don’t know; maybe they feel that the emotion and passion behind the music are enough to compensate for the lack of variation and originality. And maybe they have a point. Sadly, the band’s drummer and one of the original duo who formed the band, Nicholas Spall, passed away on the 25th October 2008 from a terminal illness, so I’m sure that the music is especially poignant for the remaining members and all of their friends and family. RIP Nicholas.
