Blabbermouth – Agorophobia

NAME: Blabbermouth
SINGLE: Agorophobia
DATE: 2August2010

LABEL: Hobgoblin Records

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Three tracks promise much more

LINE UP: Steve Thompson (Blabbermouth) – vocals, banjo, and guitar, and various other players.

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Singer Songwriter Steve Thompson continues his search for mainstream dominance with a three track taster of his next album. The title track is a string section drenched song looking at how the world is not the problem, but ‘the goddamn people living in it’. whilst ‘Paris’ is a gently strummed meditation on life, with gentle strings, accordian, acoustic guitars, and almost lullaby like backing vocals, whilst the closing track ‘My Time Machine’ is an almost industrial sound, all synth opening, and militaristic drumming, although the syncopated banjo and strings bring the Blabbermouth sound back to the fore, and it is in this track that the Nick Drake comparisons are most obvious.

SOUNDS LIKE: Nick Drake, the Beautiful South’s gentler moments, Sufjan Stevens, Clem Snide, etc.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: you would like to hear good songs, and banjo playing in pop songs.
