Cradle of Filth – Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned)

NAME: Cradle of Filth
SINGLE: Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned)
DATE: 18October2010

LABEL: Abracadaver via Peaceville records

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Macabre mediocrity from dark metallers.

LOCATION: Suffolk, England

LINE UP: Dani Filth (lead vocals), Paul Allender (lead guitar), James Mcilroy (guitar), Dave Pybuss (bass), Martin Marthus Skaroupka (drums),Ashley Ellyllon (keyboard)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Cradle of Filth have become somewhat of a black metal phenomenon over the years. After originating from Suffolk in the early nineties, the band have welcomed a plethora of new members and have created an expansive fan base for their uniquely dark music.

However, new single Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned) is a pedestrian track that does not offer many reasons as to why that fan base should widen further. The single is a complete re-run of the gloomy metal that the group has been proliferating for the last ten years.

All the typical characteristics of a Cradle of Filth song are present, as female vocals, sinister lyricism and gothic undertones are all encompassed in 4 minutes that will appease the band’s loyalists and bewilder those who expect their ears to be treated to more imagination.

SOUNDS LIKE: Dimnu Borgir having a tug of war with Iron Maiden on Bruce Dickinson’s private jet.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You enjoy brooding metal that compensates for its lack of intensity with dark atmospheric qualities.
