Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip – Cauliflower

NAME: Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip
SINGLE: Cauliflower
DATE: 11October2010

LABEL: Sunday Best

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Cheeky Chappy Glitchy Dance Heaven

LOCATION: Essex / London

LINE UP: Dan Le Sac – DJ, Scroobius Pip – Vocals, Kid.A – Vocals

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Currently on a nationwide tour, lovable Essex rougues Dan le Sac and Scroobius Pip return with a curious ode to the favourite, yet overplayed song, with a hook so catchy you will require invasive surgery to remove it from your brain. Ooo, lovely.

SOUNDS LIKE: ‘Cauliflower’ is another example of this popular duo doing what they do best; creating fun urban poetry (yes, it made me wretch as much typing that as you just did reading it.) that reaches multiple audiences. Kid. A’s sweet vocals add a softer edge to the harshness of Scroobius Pip’s barking tirade which does admittedly grow irritating after repeated listens. (latest album, ‘Logic of Chance’ serves as proof enough of this…) The music, however is completely faultless, as layered dance beats and tinkling 8-bit glitchy noises duke it out for supremecy in the background, at no point becoming repetitive or dull.

There is an array of remixes on offer with this single, which range from relaxed almost-dub to high octane belters that would get the most miserable of this Autumn’s dancefloors shaking their collective asses.

A great song, but it’s own lesson on overplaying tracks should be ignored at your peril.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You can still listen to The Streets with a straight face.
