David E Sugar – Party Killer

NAME: David E Sugar
SINGLE: Party Killer
DATE: 9August2010

LABEL: Sunday Best

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Londoner’s Funky Dance Strikes Chord

LOCATION: London, England

LINE UP: David E Sugar

WHAT’S THE STORY?: The new single by David E Sugar should be one of the hits of the summer, its a shame the charts are festered with garbages when this Londoner is making such a good job of sounding like the twisted disco cousin of Hot Chip.
Albeit there are technically two tracks on here, the remixes of Party Killer are so varied and diverse, the track is given four very acceptable makeovers.
The track itself oozes a swagger, and is self assured and has for lack of a better phrase a superb danceability, it almost makes you want get up and dance to it.
Sugar has been recommended by Zane Lowe and Hot Chip amongst others and on this evidence there is little wonder why.
Non album track ‘Travel Light’ rivals the title track as the highlight, with its funky keyboard dance sound and clever, witty lyrics.
Of the three remixes and album version of Party Killer, the Adam Smith remix is a simple delight keeping the energy and flow of the track but expands it slightly allowing the riffs to take control.
If this is just the start of David E Sugar’s dancefloor domination, please get me a ticket to the party.

SOUNDS LIKE: Sugar’s dance pop has a very familiar sound that recalls Hot Chip and even Calvin Harris (in a good way) but manages to sound quite refreshing and funky.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: Calvin Harris, Hot Chip & Crystal Castles
