Donots – The Long Way Home

NAME: Donots
ALBUM: The Long Way Home
DATE: 20September2010

LABEL: Solitary Man Records

FIVE WORD REVIEW: euro pop punk with passion

LOCATION: Ibbenbüren Rock City, Germany

LINE UP: Ingo Donot (vocals) , Guido Donot (guitar) , Alex Donot (guitar) , JD Donot (bass) , Eike Donot (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: As Eurovision has so aptly taught us, when you sing in your second language lyrics can lack a degree of subtlety. But what the lyrics lack the music more than compensates for, the album draws on a brimming toy box of instruments, strings, accordion, tuba, mandolin, and many more – the effect is fun and vibrant.

SOUNDS LIKE: ‘Forever Ends Today’ sounds like The Killers in their Sam’s Town era, and Coheed and Cambria all at the same time, their range of influences is nothing if not varied.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You like the pop-punk lyricism of Dashboard Confessional, coupled with a more technically adept, varied taste for instrumentation.
