Dr John – Tribal

NAME: Dr John
ALBUM: Tribal
DATE: 28June2010

LABEL: Proper Records

RATING: 5/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: A whole lotta soul

LOCATION: New Orleans

LINE UP: Malcolm John “Mac” Rebennack, Jr,. aka Dr John

WHAT’S THE STORY?: This funky, groovy, bluesy album comes from the American musical legend Dr John, whose career has spanned fifty years. There’s an immediate reason to show some respect – this album is another. It uses a range of instruments, all within the jazz and blues genre, to get a real variety of sound within the style. Not that I’d know (of course), but I imagine that this is the perfect kind of music to accompany lying on your floor smoking large amounts of weed and pondering the brilliance and wonder of the soul. And oh, there’s a whole lot of soul going on here. Bravo, Dr John.

SOUNDS LIKE: aural cool. Aural chill. Good vibes. Ahhhh.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: grooving and feeling the soul.
