Dub Pistols – Ganja

NAME: Dub Pistols
SINGLE : Ganja
YEAR: 15th March 2010
LABEL: Sunday Best
RATING: 3/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: They’ve never tried ganja. APPARENTLY!!!

LOCATION: London, UK.

LINE UP: Barry Ashworth / Jason O’Bryan / T. K. Lawrence / John King / Steve Hunt

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Created by former club promoter Barry Ashworth, Dub Pistols have been going since 1996. ‘Ganja’ is from their fourth and latest full length release, ‘Rum And Coke’. “Four albums in 14 years?” I hear you ask. Yes, well, the dub crew are also notorious for their remixes of others – Moby, Limp Bizkit and Ian Brown to name a few – as well as contributing to film sountracks.

SOUNDS LIKE: a remix of a beach party in Jamaica. Steel drums syncopate with cool wind synths in the background. The vocals are hugely over bearing, but with so many lyrics to cram in, you’d expect no less. And with five extra mixes, you definitely get value for money.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: rap music made pretty.
