YEAR: 2010 (January 11th)
LABEL: None

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Mid life crisis rock music

LINE UP: Tim Armstrong (vocals) / Lars Frederiksen (guitars) / Matt Freeman (bass) / Branden Steineckert (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Although having been in existence for several years as a covers band, Fat Olive, as a creative group, sound fresh out of that shady abyss in which new bands are spawned. The culmination of material being written since 2006, this is Fat Olive’s first double a-side single.
SOUNDS LIKE: the kind of band that spawns out of a mid-life crisis, but practices together long enough to outgrow this label. ‘Vaquero’ has some pleasant Pulp Fiction-esque riffs, while the flip track, ‘Awake’ falls victim to being just another generic rock single.
YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: telling all your friends you like rock music. This release (‘Awake’ especially) veers away from specificity just enough to avoid any other classification other than ‘rock’.
