Feeder – Call Out

NAME: Feeder
SINGLE: Call Out
DATE: 14June2010

LABEL: Big Teef Music

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Same Feeder with new flavour

LOCATION: Newport, Wales

LINE UP: Grant Nicholas (lead guitar), Taka Hirose (base guitar), Karl Brazil (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Following a year in exile performing under the pseudonym ‘Renegade’, the first single from their upcoming self-released album marks an interesting new direction for the venerable brit alt-rockers, as they attempt to redefine themselves with a heavier, darker sound.

SOUNDS LIKE: Heavier then before; the group barrel straight in, loud and aggressive from the get-go, ‘Things aren’t quite the same this time around’ declares Nicholas firmly, as if trying to bury once and for all the shadow of Echo Park. Long time fans shouldn’t despair, however.
While the exuberance I’ve come to expect from the group is tempered by a somewhat colder sound, this is still unmistakably Feeder; a change of attitude hasn’t lead to a change in the band’s underlying essence: the distinctive buzzing guitar I remember so well from ‘Seven Days in the Sun’ is still present, it’s just focused down darker avenues. With just this to go on it’s hard to say whether their new direction is for the better or worse, but you can be sure this will be doing the rounds on various alt rock stations over the summer.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You enjoy tuning in to XFM. You thought the Renegade tour was the bee’s knees.
