Name: Florence Rawlings
Single: I’m The Only Woman In The World
Label: Dramatico
Year: 2009
Rating: 4/5
Like a pint of iced tea after slavering in relentless heat, this first single from Florence Rawlings is helplessly refreshing. Whilst appealing and summery, it doesn’t lack flavour or density. Rawlings’ full-bodied voice is accompanied perfectly by harmonica and brass section. Decent production pays off and hints at inflections of Blues, Motown and Country, yet retaining a thoroughly radio-friendly tinge. Both ’I’m The Only Woman In The World’ and B-side ’Dedicated To The One I love’ are meaty, yet adorable and delectable; romantic, yet flirty and coy, and impossible not to like. Label-mate Katie Melua is about to be taken over.
