High On Fire – Snakes For The Divine

NAME: High On Fire
ALBUM: Snakes For The Divine
YEAR: 2010 (March 8th)
LABEL: Century Media
RATING: 5/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Awesomely brutal, fast and heavy.

LOCATION: Oakland, CA

LINE UP: Matt Pike (vocals/guitar) / Jeff Matz (bass) / Des Kensel (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Formed from the ashes of legendary stoner band Sleep, High On Fire have been credited to influencing the likes of Mastodon and Baroness. Brutally combining crushing stoner and Motorhead-esque grit, with their fifth full length High On Fire have really pushed the boundaries with ‘Snakes For The Divine’

SOUNDS LIKE: The soundtrack to hell. Opening with the eight minute juggernaught of a title track, it’s pure chaos from then onwards. The powerhouse rhythm section provides a solid base for Matt Pike to hit you with his trademark crunchy riffing and gruff vocals. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be trampled over by a herd of elephants, listening to ‘Ghost Neck’ is the closest you’ll get to a non-fatal equivalent. It’s typical High On Fire and then some.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: Motorhead, Saviours, Mastodon and Baroness.
