Ictus – Handmade & Homegrown

NAME: Ictus
EP: Handmade & Homegrown
YEAR: 2010 (May 10th)
LABEL: Unsigned

FIVE WORD REVIEW: A musical glass of water.

LOCATION: Midlands, UK

LINE UP: Aaron Murray (vocals/guitar) / Adam Rousseau (guitar/vocals) / Chris Byrne (bass/vocals) / Andy Winfield (drums/vocals)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: School friends make band, craft music for school children, become quite a top hat on Big hoo. This is idiot ‘pop-punk’ which isn’t hateful, just very, very boring. There is no youthful abandon here, and is about as punk as Vince Cable – and Ictus fans won’t get that reference. Throwaway filler tracks like ‘Whilst The World Burns’ and ‘Paper & Pens’ are just sleepy rock tunes, very basic and dull, dull, dull. To be fair, some of the riffs are catchy. But just call it as it is, PR men… this is pop, and the good thing about pop music is its disposable. Disposed.

SOUNDS LIKE: a whimpering fool’s instruction CD of rock by numbers.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: packed lunches, blazers, and grassing on the cool kids when they sneak behind the science block for a ciggie.
