Illness – Gifts from God

NAME: Illness
EP: Gifts from God
DATE: 6July2010

LABEL: Small Town America

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Rather noisy post/math rock

LINE UP: Spencer: Guitar / Emilio: Drums

WHAT’S THE STORY?: One of Brighton’s many post rock duos (and there do seem to be a lot down there) make a lot of noise to keep the faint hearted at bay. Whilst Gifts from Gods sounds like it was recorded on their mate’s four track, this rough sound probably suits the band better than going into an expensive studio and adds a lot of character to the tracks.

This is a very imaginative EP and a brave attempt to release an entirely instrumental EP, however being six tracks long it does tire the ears quite easily. Very creative but the band still need a lot of work. Give them a few years and each song they produce will be a killer.

SOUNDS LIKE: Giraffes? Giraffes!, Brighton’s medium sized music venues

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You’re looking to get into something really mathematical, beyond cliched samples of Game Boy and Mario.
