Insane – Our Island, Our Empire

NAME: Insane
ALBUM: Our Island – Our Empire
YEAR: 2010 (July 5th)
LABEL: Edge
RATING: 3/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Proving European metal ain’t dead.

LOCATION: Budapest, Hungary

LINE UP: Molnar Balint (vocals) / Kadar Laszlo (guitars) / Toth Bertalan (bass/backing vocals) / Brunner Bela (guitars) / Ersek Gabor (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Dynamic metallers Insane have produced another satisfactory metal collection, which crosses genres from Emo to Punk, via a stop-off at sweltering Spain on the flamenco ‘Fuerteventura’. Hardcore headmetal permeates throughout, on standards such as ‘Something In The Wind’ and ‘How Dare You’, to more impressive songs such as the crunching ‘Ready To Kill’ and Hungarian ‘Lelkemirantyu’, which has a rapid if friendly beat, leading to the most uplifting chorus on the album. It’s a bit unsophisticated, and metallers would have heard most of these directions before – but it’s easily accessible to new fans or interested tourists.

SOUNDS LIKE: Deftones, RATM, and most millennial US rock.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: mature metal with sweaty moments.
