Is Tropical – South Pacific

NAME: Is Tropical
SINGLE: South Pacific
DATE: 22November2010

LABEL: Kitsune

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Forecast: Dance with light grooving.

LOCATION: London, England

LINE UP: Gary Barber (Vocals/Guitar/Keys), Simon Milner (Vocals/Guitars/Keys), Dominic Apa (Drums and programming).

WHAT’S THE STORY?: London three piece Is Tropical provide a taster of what to expect come their debut album in the New Year. If this delights you can catch them on tour with the Mystery Jets in November.

SOUNDS LIKE: One of those few bands whose name seems to actually embody their sound style, South Pacific is a sweet sunny number with a tinge of Calypso that can’t help but bring up pictures of tropical white sand perfection. A fair feat considering the electro style’s natural tendency toward cold aloofness and the fact the nearest beach to these lads is probably on the Thames. No, this is one warm cheery number, so warm it teeters on Pokemon OST levels of saccharinity, and sometimes the distortion’s a bit heavy handed even for synth enthusiasts, but there’s just something so infectious about the whole thing you can’t help but love it. Guaranteed to lift your head and click your fingers.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You want to stick two fingers to the face of autumn and hit your groove thing.
