James Owen Fender – The Cloud

NAME: James Owen Fender
ALBUM: The Cloud
DATE: 6October2010

LABEL: Plumpton Presents

FIVE WORD REVIEW: The Future of British Indie.

LINE UP: James Owen Fender (vocals, guitar) , Jim Knox (bass) , Beaker (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: With wisdom far beyond his years, expect big, huge, gargantuan things from this cheeky little chap from Leeds. ‘Clouds’ is by far the best indie hit of the year, not only that, the single offers a truly stunning feat of vocal perfection in the form of ‘5108’. And to make it a hattrick ‘Everyday’ is as catchy as nits…in a really, really good way.

SOUNDS LIKE: James’ voice does sound slightly like that youth from The View, but he’s far less irritatingly middle class, so (like most people) he probably doesn’t think it’s a big deal to have the same jeans on for more than three days.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: If you’ve been waiting for a northerner to give alternative music a kick up the backside for a while now.
