Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies – Wotcheor

NAME: Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies
ALBUM: Wotcheor
DATE: 1January2010

LABEL: Tantobie Records

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Eccentric, weird and very likeable.

LOCATION: North East

LINE UP: Jez Lowe (vocals) Kate Bramley (vocals and fiddle) Andy May (pipes) David De la Haye (bass)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies produce a slightly outdated brand of story telling folk, but after a few tracks of ‘Wotcheor!’ the style stops seeming old fashioned and begins to feel just kitsch enough to be brilliant.

SOUNDS LIKE: Like a load of bloody good stories. Like all good stories you care about the characters and want to see how things turn out.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: If your nan used to play you Jake Thackray and other story-telling old-timers and say “they don’t make them like this anymore”. Now you can proudly wave Jez Lowe’s album and tell her that hope is not lost and the bizarre factory that makes these blokes is still in operation.
