NAME: Jim Kroft
ALBUM: Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea
YEAR: 2010 (May 3rd)
LABEL: Sidewalk7
RATING: 4/5
FIVE WORD REVIEW: The perfect bohemian party playlist.
LOCATION: Berlin, Germany
LINE UP: Jim Kroft (vocals, guitar)
WHAT’S THE STORY?: Though the album can feel a little samey in parts there are some stand out tracks that make this debut offering well worth a listen. ‘Tales of The Dark Arts’ has a catchy psychedelic, sixties feel to it, and ‘Second Chance’ is reminiscent of the bits that made The Delays first album so great. If emigration means you write songs like this, maybe more bands should try it.
SOUNDS LIKE: Eclectic echoes from the sixties and beyond, an expat who unashamedly does his own thing.
YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: A bit of everything from MGMT to Bowie.
