Joy Formidable – Popinjay

NAME: Joy Formidable
SINGLE: Popinjay
YEAR: 2010
LABEL: Draca
RATING: 3/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Welsh doesn’t necessarily mean bad.

LOCATION: Wales, UK

LINE UP: Ritzy Bryan (vocals/guitar) / Rhydian Daffyd (bass/vocals) / Matt Thomas (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Three years old, The Joy Formidable release ‘Popinjay’ as their sixth single, ahead of the release of their debut full length offering,

SOUNDS LIKE: Yeah Yeah Yeahs-lite. The backing vocals are somewhat haunting, whilst the simplistic drums and bass line pound along relentlessly, like angry waves.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: wall of noise guitars, fuzzy vocals, Topshop outfits.
