K-OS – I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman

NAME: K-OS
SINGLE: I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman
YEAR: 2010 (April 19th)
LABEL: Last Gang Records
RATING: 5/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: A show-er and a grower

LOCATION: Canada

LINE UP: K-OS / Nelly Furtado / Saukrates

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Employing the vocal talents of Nelly Furtado, sampling Phantom Planets ‘California’, with an assortment of Canadian rap talent, this really, really shouldn’t work, but it does. It’s unbelievably catchy, as exciting on the tenth listen as it is on the first.

SOUNDS LIKE: When Kanye West used to rap and sample unexpected, cool stuff – before he started trying to sing.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: Accessible hip hop, that doesn’t take itself too seriously but doesn’t sell out into full blown pop.
