WHAT’S THE STORY?: Opening with what can only be described as a sound emanating the excitement of Kerry Katona spotting an Iceland buffet deal, followed by an approximation of the sonic after-effects of consuming such delicacies, Kraak & Smaak are back with Dynamite and a milestone 100th release for Jalapeno Records.

Beginning with a floorfilling (if not head-turning) mechanical drumbeat that is shortly fused with a quaking growl of sub-bass, of which is sure to agonise old Dorothy next door, Dynamite kicks off with intent. Offbeat electro stabs subsequently deliver a more than subtle hint of 70s style funk to Kraak & Smaak’s signature House dish.

Cue the lyrics: ‘Tricky finger licky chicky take another bite. Shake it shake it shake it shake it like a dynamite’ (please note: I have definitely deciphered these badly). Now, a modern English gentleman such as myself would normally be appalled by such ‘licking bum bum’ talk, but these lyrics are enchanting, and add an almost jovial groove to the track.

Please do not let their band name delude you; Dynamite is more of a mouthful than a crunch and taste.

SOUNDS LIKE: ooooooohhhhaaaaaaa (that’s the sounds I make as a by-product of dancing)

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You like doing the above (with or without stated sound effects)
