Let’s Go To War – Karmageddon

NAME: Let’s Go To War
ALBUM: Karmageddon
YEAR: 2010 (March 29th)
LABEL: Last Gang Records
RATING: 4/5
FIVE WORD REVIEW: Eclectic, confident Canadian hip-hop feast.

LOCATION: Toronto Canada

LINE UP: DJ Cirkut (sound) / Jet Brown (Voice) / Sonny G (Noise)

Check out this video with the guys discussing the album, track by track!

WHAT’S THE STORY?: The band has been described as “unconcerned with pigeonholes” and listening to Karmageddon it is easy to see why. Why would Let’s go to War conform to one genre when they’re so clearly adept at building bridges between many. The album has dance hall floor fillers, (‘Life We Live’, ‘Push Up Ya Lighta’), unashamed pop classics in the making (‘Don’t Love Me’); and some respectable hip-hop tunes like ‘Internet Pornstar. Though the not-so-subtle cocaine metaphor in ‘The Whole City’s Got A Cold’ is a little cringe-worthy, this is a self assured, addictive album.

SOUNDS LIKE: The lovechild of elctronica and hip-hop.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: Hip-hop that doesn’t take itself to seriously.
