Oh, it is so nice to hear something refreshing and rather lovely. The Little Things are a new-ish vaguely Belle and Sebastian-sounding band of four, the lead composer of which used to reckon his songs were “country”. They’re not. They are more acoustic rock with a vaguely poppy feel – but not in a manufactured charts kind of a way.The band comprises Henry, Rokhsan, James and Ed, with the first two taking care of the very mellow and pleasant vocals. It’s always a risk having a singer of each gender in the band – there’s a good chance you might end up sounding like The Beautiful South. Little Things do have a slight element of them, but on the other hand, their music is unashamedly sweet and folky, which comes across as chilled and adorable rather than nauseating. And there’s enough of a rock element for the music to appeal to the cooler set.
They obviously bond really well as a group, because their sound is very together and beautifully in sync. When you listen to the songs you get a general feeling that they’re all very good friends making lovely music together.
So give this album a go. It’ll give you a sense of enormous well-being.
