WHAT’S THE STORY?: This is the second solo installment from multi-instrumentalist Mariusz Duda and his band of merry men. Or perhaps not so merry, you may think, when you play ‘Lunatic Soul II’. Duda’s favourite movie is the dark, ghostly Silent Hill – and this album certainly reflects the lonely no-man’s land the movie portrays.

SOUNDS LIKE: Duda describes the album as “a journey through the afterworld.” It’s dark, introspective, and full of delicate nuances which creep out from the foliage after several plays. The two instrumental tracks ‘The In-Between Kingdom’ and ‘Limbo’ are wandering soundtracks of suffering; emotive and paranoid. Blending diverse instrumentation, ‘Lunatic Soul II’ constantly challenges the listener, never making them comfortable, forcing them to look over their shoulder.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: Opeth’s ‘The Drapery Falls’ without the crushing Death Metal jextapositions.
