Mongrel – Revenge

NAME: Mongrel
EP: Revenge
YEAR: 2010
LABEL: Immolation Records
RATING: 3/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Two minute slabs of power.

LOCATION: Massachusetts

LINE UP: Adam Savage – Guitars, Drew Barker – Vocals, Ed Loguercio – Drums, Rev – Bass

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Punk merchants from across the pond want to pound your head into submission and leave a smile on your face as you lay broken on the floor. No mean feat, but they seem to pull it off.

SOUNDS LIKE: If you like no-nonsense, balls-to-the-wall punk-metal, you can’t go wrong with Mongrel. Taking no prisoners and never wimping out, they fly through these two minute monsters, chucking all filler out the window and focusing on the biggest impact. Stand out tracks are ‘Beyond Repair’ and ‘Butterknife Suicide’ with the former being a mere one minute-thirty long; a short-sharp blast of power. Not the most original and arresting sound ever created, but you can hear the fun they had writing and playing this material and it really is infectious. It put a smile on this reviewers face anyway.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: Clever punk played at break neck speed with the tightness of metal.
