WHAT’S THE STORY?: Since the release of their 2002 debut album `I Am The Movie’, Motion City Soundtrack have consolidated themselves as the unrivalled kings of cerebral pop-punk. Thankfully, `A Lifeless Ordinary’ prolongs their continuous stream of excellent releases.

The single opens with addictive guitar work that is accompanied by the introspective lyrics of front man, Justin Pierre. Within seconds, Motion City Soundtrack entrance the listener’s ears and the euphoric sound of Pierre’s vocals manage to superbly contradict his lyrical content. In fact, the jovial nature of the band’s music even suggests that there may be optimism in Pierre’s utterance of: “quicksand has a massive appeal to me”.

Motion City Soundtrack are the perfect antidote to formulaic pop-punk, and `A Lifeless Ordinary’ has the potential to illuminate the masses.

SOUNDS LIKE: Weezer and The Get Up Kids combined with the offbeat eccentricities of Say Anything.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You enjoy catchy music that manages to elude musical conventions.
